Given Altoona's railroad heritage, it's no surprise that model trains are a Christmastime tradition for many in the area. "Everyone remembers going to Gable's Department Store in downtown Altoona," said Harley Burket, who has a year-round model train spread in his basement. "They'd put a train display in the window in their store on 11th Avenue with all the new Lionel cars.

Herb Weiss has collected and built model trains for the past 47 years. He has designed an entire room for the models to operate in at his home in Spartanburg. Weiss has 43 locomotives and hundreds of freight cars.
