Many come to the fair for the tilting, twirling rides, cornucopia of food and the entertainment. Ray Baird is drawn by history and the need to share it. Dressed in a soldier’s Civil War uniform and stationed along the midway at the Chesterfield County Fair yesterday, Baird showed passers-by how men of that time loaded and fired gunpowder rifles and cannons of various sizes.

This summer five youths from 859 Crowsnest Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Cadets attended summer training centres in Penhold and Cold Lake, Alberta. Their training, travel, meals and accommodation were provided free.
