Kittanning resident and Armstrong Habitat for Humanity volunteer, Michael Luke, is sharing his love of trains with a large display that continues from 6 to 9 p.m. today, takes a break for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, then resumes Sunday through Dec. 30, at the former Christian bookstore, adjacent to Family Dollar, on Jefferson Street, Kittanning.

The model train display that draws thousands of people to Union Station between Thanksgiving and January will soon become a permanent part of the KC Rail Experience museum. “People have been asking for so many years how they can see the trains year-round,” said Lori Glazer, Union Station’s director of sales and customer service. “We decided to make it happen.”

It's fair to say that, if not for the railroad, Kingman as we know it would not exist. Though it was incorporated in 1952, the city actually began life 70 years earlier as a stop along the newly laid tracks, and even its name comes from a railroad surveyor, Lewis Kingman.
