Seven trains cancelled after Bengal accident

Seven trains were cancelled as the engine and six coaches of the Bangalore-bound Guwahati-Bangalore Express derailed and were hit by a passenger train passing on the adjacent tracks in West Bengal's Malda district Sunday evening, a railway official said. One person died in the incident.

New Delhi, Feb 25 (IANS) Sparing the passenger and industry from fare and freight hikes yet again, Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee Friday presented the rail budget for 2011-12 with the highest investment of Rs.57,630 crore ($12.7 billion), 68 new trains and a vow to build a stronger railroad infrastructure based on the Vision 2020 document.

NEW DELHI: The Election Commission has granted permission to the Railways to run special trains for the coming festive season. It has allowed the running of special trains during the Durga Puja, Deepavali and Chhat festival and winter special trains.
