For Rare And Hard To Find Model Trains
Ken Burling never played with model trains as a child. Now he is surrounded by more than 30,000 pieces of railroad train hardware at his business, Burling’s Tons of Trains, 16924 E. Colony Drive.
Sean O’Neill, 9, lives in Los Olivos, and he loves trains so much that he did a school project on the Pacific Coast Railway that used to run to Mattei’s Tavern from southern San Luis Obispo County.

Harry Stinson, Vice President of the Model Railway Club, takes a few of his trains for a spin at the Work Point clubhouse. The Model Railway Club has been chugging along at Work Point 1031 since its creation in 1997.

Amid tomten, ljustrums and julboks, Lionel sticks out in Bishop Hill’s Colony Steeple building. That’s Lionel as in model train. Tomte is the mythological protective elf; ljustrum is the traditional Swedish candelabra; and julbok is the Swedish yule goat, often represented as a straw figure.
