EARLIER this year, I had the opportunity to ride the Amtrak Auto Train from Sanford, Fla., to Lorton, Va. Sanford is very close to Orlando and Lorton is just south of Washington, D.C. Every day the trains travel that route: one train moving north and one moving south.
