Although he was a man of many hobbies, William Kay had a one-track mind when it came to model trains. At one time or another, the father of three dabbled in home wine-making, stained-glass art, golf, boating and duck hunting, but none could compete with his passion for his train sets.

The Waco Cultural Arts Festival will kick off with an Open Mic Night from 7-10 tonight and will continue with a full schedule of activities from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Indian Spring Park and Martin Luther King Jr. Park.

A national report shows that the number of Americans volunteering increased 1.6 million from 2008, but most of those volunteers are women and men are needed in many community programs, especially to mentor young men who don't have a positive male role model in their lives.
