Once upon a time the train was the focal point of many towns, some of which owed their very existence to the railroad. The howl of a whistle announced the arrival of the train that was bringing passengers, news, mail and goods that otherwise the townspeople would do without.

Morton Arboretum railroad brings back Christmas enchantment

If you squint your eyes, you may feel like you're inside a snow globe at the "Enchanted Railroad" display at the Morton Arboretum in Lisle. "It's so engaging, and it's a sensory stimulation," said Special Events Manager Marilyn Baysek of the display, which drew 15,000 visitors last year.
