Young and old come together for annual train show

Ken Murphy had his hands full Saturday as he tried to keep his grandsons from touching all the model trains they saw — and there were plenty of them. Murphy and his daughter-in-law, Carolyn, brought the youngsters to the 17 th annual Carolina Coastal Railroad Show at the Shriners Sudan Temple.

Large-scale model train hobbyists are on the same track

Many people remember a childhood with an electric train set. Perhaps it was an HO-scale layout on a sheet of plywood in the basement or a brand-new Lionel set first discovered under the Christmas tree. While most of those train sets have been long-since put away, some Southern Illinoisans' fondness for model railroading has grown, both in levels of interest and in the size of their trains.
