Don't invite 10-year-old Kyle Deschner to play Nintendo Wii, Xbox or PlayStation video games. Kyle, a fifth-grader at Our Redeemer Lutheran School, is a hands-on kid who'd rather play with model trains than those one-dimensional, on-screen devices.

T HINK TANK: Vancouver Police Foundation chair Peter Armstrong founded the Rocky Mountaineer firm that sends trains to Calgary, Jasper, Whistler, etc. The conveyance he unveiled this week was less luxurious. Still, the 10 city police officers who'll ride at up to 128 km/h in the 14-tonne armoured rescue vehicle (ARV) he presented to Chief Constable Jim Chu will be as safe as on a train.
