The substation for light rail near PSU will be able to generate electricity with solar and wind power and boasts unique architectural elements. The hope is that TriMet's south terminus will become a model for other cities interested in tapping renewable energy sources for public transportation projects.

PORTLAND, Ore. -- TriMet has proposed cutting free bus service in Fareless Square and on Monday opened the idea to public commenting. The agency would maintain free rail service via MAX trains and street cars. Bus routes would begin charging in the zone, spokesperson Mary Fetch said.
