Program trains young people with autism for jobs

When the six Henrico County students with autism started job-training internships last fall at St. Marys Hospital, most wouldnt make eye contact with each other or the hospital staff. Yesterday marked a milestone for the studentsthey not only completed the internships with more job skills and greater confidence, but they also got job offers to work at St. Marys.

Area model-railroad enthusiasts, Boy Scouts and those who just enjoy the whimsy of miniature trains will be at Saunders Middle School on March 13 and 14 for the 12th annual Model Train Show, sponsored by Dale City-based Boy Scout Troop 964.

After more than a decade of detailed and dedicated work, Ward L. Armstrong’s miniature masterpiece is complete. Armstrong, an attorney and Democrat who represents Henry County in the Virginia House of Delegates, said he has only two to three hours a month to spare for his hobby, model trains. For that reason, it has taken him 12 years to complete the snow village at his home in Hunt Country Farms.
